Back to School

I hope the term "its never too late" has some truth to it. Cause I, Kelly, returned to school today. I have known for a long time that I should continue my schooling but have always thought of a reason, no matter how irrelevant, not to. So I did what I have done with many other things in my life which is don't think, just do.

I am enrolled at Argosy University located in Draper. I have always struggled with larger schools having so many programs that is seems like they choose quantity over quality. Argosy only has two focuses, Psychology and Business. It will take just as many credits to get the degree but more courses are targeted toward my degree rather than broad classes that every student of every program has to take.

The schooling is quite convenient because most courses are online and/or online. You choose what works for you and if you struggle you can go to campus. This works great for me 'cause I am still working full time while I go to school full time.

So what do I want to do in Psychology? After I get my bachelors degree, I will get my masters in Marriage/Family Counseling. Then if I still have the stamina, I will get my PhD in Organizational Psychology. So if all gos to plan, I will have the credentials to be a private counselor and also make a living working with multiple corporations to improve their companies work morale.

Let me Explain

Being the avid reader of the Jaques' blog that you are, you may have noticed Kelly commenting on me dressing up as a giant frog for charity. So I will take the opportunity to explain.
Last week, Tuesday I think, our company was contacted by Make-A-Wish Foundation about getting some Signing Time! DVDs for a little boy with down-syndrome. He had two wishes: a big screen t.v. and for Signing Time! DVDs. So Rachel (the host and co-creator) decided it would be a fun surprise to present them to him herself. Passing by my desk she jokingly asked if I would dress up as Hopkins (akin to blues clues or some child mascot you know). I thought about it. I really wanted to go see a movie that night, but when she told me what it was for, I decided to do it. We met back at the office later that night and went to present our donation to him.
Now this costume consists of a green stir-up suit. I looked like the Grinch. Then were some shorts and shirt that went over the suit. Then come the feet and gloves. I couldn't walk or get my chapstick open. The head has a little fan it in to dispel the hot air and hopefully stinky breath you have. I practiced a little walking in the feet, but they were the size of swimming flippers.
We had to hide a little when we got to the M.A.W building. But when we came out, Rachel, Alex, Leah and me dressed as Hopkins, Rhett(the little boy) didn't quite know what to make of it. He was a little scared of Hopkins, but eventually warmed up and kept giving Hopkins high fives and knuckles. His family was so excited and surprised that we came. Rhett was so cute and was so excited to see his favorite characters. I had fun walking around and greeting other children. Sadly I did make a baby cry. She just wasn't sure about me, well Hopkins rather.
I can't describe the joy I felt seeing this little guys face light up. I won't go into detail about his and his family's struggles, but the whole family was so excited to see us there. It was well worth the hot muggy suit just to see the smile on Rhett's face. I now wish I worked at M.A.W and could see that every day as my job. As small of a part I was in this little boy's life, I am so grateful for the small opportunity to make him happy.

We Are Buying A House!!!

The loan process took forever but has finally come through, therefore..... I present to you our new home.

We have looked at hundreds of homes and it seemed like nothing felt right, unless it was for a lot more then we could afford. Then we found this development near Daybreak, which for those of you who don't know is in the S/W part of Salt Lake. Let me tell you, it is so nice to go from looking at dirty old homes built in the 70's, with absolutely no personality, to a brand new home in which everything is new and to our specifications. And oddly enough they cost the same.

It is like a town home but it is part of a courtyard setup. Basically the units are connected but not in a row, but in a half circle, if that makes sense. We purchased the largest one which takes up one whole side. Which is awesome for two reasons. Our front door is separate from the rest, all the other units in the courtyard seem like their doors are too clustered. But the best reason is we are within a half mile of the new Oquirrh Mountain Temple and we have a great view of it. Let me tell you, it makes for quite the backdrop during sundown. The house will be complete in mid October. I have included a few pics for you to get an idea of what it will be like.


I will admit its a little different but we love it.

Happy Anni to the Jaques!!

So I was going to save this for work because sometimes I get a little bored, but tonight I got even more bored.

Three years ago, August 20, 2005 Kelly and I got hitched in the San Diego temple. It was awesome. We got to sit in the celestial room forever. We requested a small room but because we were the only ones to get married at the time they gave us the biggest sealing room in the temple, too bad there weren't that many people. I don't remember much of the sealers comments, but I just remember feeling completely happy. After the sealing we exchanged rings. Funny story: when Kelly proposed to me he put the ring on the right finger, wrong hand. I did the exact same thing when we exchanged rings in the temple. Ok not that funny but I thought it might be. We were greeted outside by friends and family members, took pictures and then headed over to Tom Ham's Lighthouse. We had an awesome view of the San Diego harbor and there was the best moon ever. Then Kelly and I headed off to our honeymoon (to do it ;). We stayed in San Diego and went to Sea World. We walked down to the beach and just enjoyed the fine weather.

Kelly looks back on the past three (well five if you count the time we spent dating) years and his favorite memories are the night rides we would take to just get out. My favorite memories are when we can just laugh about nothing and it seems to last for hours. Kelly is always able to stay calm when I freak out. He says I worry enough for the both of us. He is optimistic, me not so much. I am funny, Kelly not so much. Just kidding. I push to get us to go to church, Kelly pushes the snooze button. Kelly thinks about deep, meaningful things, I mostly just think about anything funny or music related. He likes Quinten Tarentino, I like classics and musicals. Kelly calls "Thoroughly Modern Millie," "Inconveniently Milly," because he can never remember the name.

Well enough about us. I included some pics of us mainly because I get bored at work and watch them over and over and laugh at the stupid memory behind the picture. Lame I know.

- Youtube. If I hear a song I like, I have to look up the music video during down time at work.

- I'm the baby of the family
- I hate fish, the smell, the look of them and texture.
- I still have my tonsils.

Me, Me, Me!

So I have seen this floating around on peoples blogs. I can't decide if I like it or not. But since I am totally narcissistic, egotistical and self-involved (thank you thesaurus) I decided to give it a whorl. But since I love Kelly just as much as I love myself... I guess you could post faves about him too. Or me and him. But if you don't know me, I suggest you get to know me. Because frankly I am the coolest around. And if you don't know me, then you don't know that I am very sarcastic and quite frankly a smart-ass. Let's have some fun shall we?!

"Must Go"

I know this is a total rip-off from a radio morning show, but I have been mentally adding things to my list of things that must go. For any of you who do not know what I am referring to, its a thing that bothers you, so much that they should be eliminated from the face of the earth. And it just feels nice to have them be heard. I invite each of you to add something(s) of your own that you simply cannot stand anymore on the comments page.

Kelly's List

-When you hold a door open for a complete stranger and the person pushes the door open that final two inches of the doors capacity as they walk through, sometimes they do this while thanking you at the same time.

-People who do not wave to show their graditude when I let them into traffic. If they wave they are fine and I feel good about myself, if they do not then I can feel the rage boiling up inside me. There is no gray area in this matter.

-Reality Shows and anyone who believes that none of them are scripted.

-How some car doors unlock to the left while others unlock to the right. I always lose that 50-50 guess.

-Cyclist that ride in traffic, but become 'pedestrians' when they come to a red light and ride through the crosswalk.

-When fast food joints like McDonalds uses the word "fresh."

-Diehard sports fanatics who probably couldn't run to their mailbox without having a heart attack.

-Nascar, go ahead and keep it just reduce it to ten laps or something, then it would be interesting how crazy it gets when they go balls to the wall rather then a ridiculously long endurance race with pitstops and tire changes. Its no wonder no one can watch it without a beer in hand.

-People who declare themselves to be Democratic or Republican, lets be honest, both parties are souly devoted to fighting with the other and have lost all desire to do what is best for the people.

-Those two insets on the tops of hangers (designated for hanging womens shirts like spaghetti string and others). They catch the collar of my tee shirts everytime.
